Banf Statue by Villa & House
The Banf Statue is a great example of the 20th century’s meditations on negative space. Here, a tubular, ovoid form reaches to connect at a midpoint. Leading artists of the day thought voids of negative space were of equal importance to the solidly carved mass and a method of making the invisible visible. Indeed, many artists of this time felt that a step away from representation was a step toward universal truth. White polymerized plaster. Black marble base.
